In Spain and in some parts of the Spanish speaking world, it is seldom you hear one use the term espaƱol (Spanish) to refer to this language, but rather the language is opted to be known as the Castellano or Castilian, meaning the language of the Castile region. In the 1978 Spanish Constitution, Castilian was defined as the official Spanish language of the State. It refers to the origins of the language and the its sociopolitical status in which it was introduced in America.
